Unit 1: Narrative Description and Personal Essay

In this unit, we will work on describing a problem in our local community that is important to us and convincing someone else outside of this class to pay attention to it.
We’ll also see real narratives from Queens College students that do the same. Using these narratives as models for our own work, we’ll practice summarizing, locating and developing claims, and supporting those claims with evidence from our life experiences.
This unit practices a key skill: telling a personal story that illustrates a larger phenomenon.
